New Years

Recharge, Renew, Refresh!

It’s New Year’s Eve!  I really do feel like 2015 just started.  It’s so weird how the older you get, the faster the years seem to go.  I can remember being about 10 or 11 and feeling like growing up was so far away and would never get here.  And I suppose, since I’m 5’1″, growing “up” never did come in a sense. Ha!  But I’m looking forward to what this new year has to bring.  I love that new feeling that January first brings.  That start over point for anything you let fall the year before or just a time to begin something totally new.    I even got a new planner (mainly because my old one was falling apart) for a fresh new start!  Blank pages full of possibility.

Starting last year, I decided that I wouldn’t make resolutions anymore since they tend to have a negative connotation these days.  No one seems to keep resolutions and no one really expects you to either.  That’s not encouraging whatsoever!  So I started making general goals.  Not as a way to cop out of having to keep a resolution but as a way to set realistic expectations for myself.

Here are a few of my goals for the new year:

1. Read at least one book a month – With two kids, it’s hard enough to read just one book.  When I lay down sometimes, I just want to veg out and watch TV.  I want to broaden my horizons and spend less time with the tube.

2.  Be more conscious of my eating – People who know me probably think this is ridiculous.  I’m pretty health conscious as it is, I don’t eat a ton of bad food.  But I don’t even enough vegetables and every now and then I’ve been prone to late night binging.  I want to cook a little more and snack a little less.

3.  Drink more water – Silly to have as a goal?  Maybe.  And I suppose it could be rolled into the last one but I want to make a conscious effort to hydrate more.  I’m so bad about it!  Even with a very physical job as a dance teacher, I don’t drink nearly enough water.  So, with all that in mind, it gets it’s own number.

4.  Plan ahead – This has more to do with this little blogging space of mine than other areas.  I was getting really good about it for awhile and then I had RC and things kind of fell off the wagon.  Understandable, I know.  But now that we’ve gotten through the adjustment phase and he’s sleeping through the night (I’m afraid to type that…knock on wood!) I can get myself back in a new routine.

5.  Purge the house – I’m decluttering every space in this house if it kills me!

6.  Pray more – We recently had a sermon at church about being intentional.  Intentionally finding ways to make others’ lives better, to add value.  I want to intentionally pray more, to make it more of an on going conversation with God rather than just once or twice a day or when something big, good or bad, happens in my day.

7. Learn to sew one or two new things – I got a FABULOUS sewing/quilting/embroidering machine for Christmas.  I plan to use is as much as possible!

I’m sure I’ll come up with a few more before midnight, but these are the ones that have been on my mind and I really want to change/do in the new year.

How about you?  What are some of your goals for 2016?
XO, Kelly

Happy New Year!

In Uncategorized

The new year is just hours away and I’m super pumped for the clean slate feeling January 1st gives me each year!  Today we celebrate just how far God has brought us and anticipate just how far he’s yet to take us.  So I thought I’d share with you a little of both. Here are my, sort of, resolutions…

What I’m Celebrating:
We bought our very first home!
Mr. G is almost fully potty trained (better go knock on some wood!)
Three beautiful weddings
Finding my niche in the handmade world with Hoopsy Daisy
Another great year of inspiration and DIY fun
Finding a new church that we love
One full year of “Ten Little Things”
Mr. G starting Preschool and it is the best possible place I can imagine him being at this stage in his development
Insanely giving and loving family
Another year of quitting smoking – today is 5 years!

What I’m Anticipating:
A whole new approach to this blogging life (stay tuned!)
Less comparing
Quarterly releases for the shop
Focusing more on the present with Mr. G
Settling into a new church home
More time spent in His Word
Healthier choices for my mind, body, and spirit
Keeping up with Project Life (post to come about how I’m catching up from this entire year!)
God leading me in the direction He wants me to go and saying YES!

So how about you?  What are you celebrating and anticipating?

Happy New Year!
XO, Kelly

Like most people in the world, I’m quite shocked at how fast this year came to an end.  But at the same time, I’m excited for the new one to start.  So many new things will be happening and other wonderful things will continue.
Remember this?
I’m excited for…
* Moving into our new home
* Mr. G’s 2nd birthday/party
* Working on my recital dances for work
* All of the fun BIG projects I’ll be able to do
since I will have more space!
My goals for 2014:
More of these…
* drinking water
* devotional time
* play dates
* gym time
Less of these…
* negative talk
(whether about myself or anything else)
* bad language…a big vice of mine
* worrying about things I can’t change
What are you excited for in the new year?
XO, Kelly

Sunday Inspiration // My 2014 Resolution

I found this quote on Pinterest and it really caught me.  (and apparently a lot of other people since it has over 200 repins!) I know a lot of us are busy making plans for all of the changes we’re going to make for the new year.  Maybe it’s the ever popular “Get to Goal Weight” or “Be Healthier” ones.  Possibly some of you are making a very serious change like “Quit Smoking”.  I made that one four years ago this coming New Years and going strong! But when I saw this quote, I new this was my new goal.  Not just for the new year though.  I want to make this my new habit, my mantra.  It’s not a quote from some celebrity or long gone philosopher.  When I looked up who it was, I stumbled onto an article by Eros-Alegra Clarke.  She is a wonderful writer with a number of awards to her credit.  And not to be looked over, a mama to three! So whether she reads this or not, I want to thank her for this awesome spark of inspiration.  Thanks Ms. Clarke!

DIY mini book

In an effort to keep up with my resolutions this year, I’ve decided to blog about them from time to time. I used a printout from Live Laugh Rowe to write down my goals for the new year.  I really liked this printout because it doesn’t say “resolutions”.  It says “this year I will…”.  I feel like it’s a more positive approach to the whole resolution idea.
The first thing I wrote down was “write down prayers”.  Here’s my new prayer journal.
I left the string a little long to make a place marker and tied a button to the end.

I sadly cannot remember where I found these journal cards.  But they were free!

I got my cover art from Beautifully Rooted.

I don’t write huge novels, just little snippets.  If you’ve ever read The Help (or seen the movie), I like to think I write my prayers like Aibileen.

DIY Instagram Calendar

In Uncategorized
This project is technically a Saw It, PINNED It, Tried it but I had to share since it’s the new year!
I saw this fun Instagram Calendar on A Beautiful Mess and since I’m pretty obsessed with all things Instagram, I gave it a try.
In stead of taking the calendar apart, I used it as a base for the pictures.
It was fun going through all of my pictures on Instagram especially since there were some I had forgotten about.
I made them 5×5 to fit the calendar and the scrapbook paper.
I covered the front with a coat of paint and a glittery 2013!
Washi tape is my BFF. 🙂 Plus, it helps to keep everything together.
And no calendar would be complete without this picture…
Happy New Year!!!
