Moon Sand

Playing in the “Sand”

In DIY, Mommyhood

It’s screen free week here and we’re not doing to bad.  Gav has asked a few times if he can watch this or that but it hasn’t been met with much whining at all.  So the other day, while Gav was begrudgingly doing his rest time, I whipped up a new sandbox for him.

What You’ll Need:  Large Bin, Flour, Baby Oil, Small Toys/Rocks/Digging Tools

Following THIS recipe, I made some homemade moon sand in a deep storage bin I happened to already have.

Then all you have to do is bury some of the toys, place some on top to play with and you’re ready to go!  Just make sure this is strictly an outdoor activity.  It gets messy!

Our old dino Jello mold, which really was terrible for Jello, worked great with the moon sand.  Other items that are fun to use are measuring cups, silicone baking molds, and sifters.

Also, note to self, don’t wear black while playing in the “sand” box.

Saw It, Pinned It, Tried It // Moon Sand

In Uncategorized

My mom took LM and me to the children’s museum in Atlanta a few weeks ago.  We LOVED it!  It was a lot of fun for LM since most of the activities were appropriate for his age.
I swear, I will never ever get tired of watching him explore.

One of the activities that we thought was particularly neat-o was the moon sand.  I had never played with it before and LM loved to touch it and play in it.  Well, of course our next thought was,”We NEEEED this.” But then the next thought, if you know me, was, “I NEEED to DIY this!”
My mom found an easier that easy recipe on Pinterest and I got to work.

What You’ll Need: Large Container, Baby Oil, Flour
You’ll need more flour than pictured.
The recipe is 8 cups flour and 1 cup baby oil.  I doubled it to have enough to really play in.

It holds shape really well.

This is most defintely an OUTDOOR activity.  As you can see, it can be messy.
