Instagram is an ever growing beast of a platform.  Every day I’m sure there are countless new members and a bi-jillion (yeah, bi-jillion) new photos ranging from sweet babies, to products, to exotic places. I’m not surprised that people opt to use the services of marketing specialists such as Buzzoid | Instagram Growth Agency, in the hopes of building their following to a level where they are on the same level as some of the other influencers they follow. You have to do what you’ve got to do. I’ve seen a number of posts about what you shouldn’t post on Instagram and the like.  Well today I give you a list of what you should post on Instagram.  And yes, I’m (proudly) guilty of every single one!

    1. Your Kids

Last time I checked, they are your kids, and it is your account.  If Instagram is how you choose to share their pictures with family, or to document their growth, or whatever, do it!  Some people have a large following and I get that they may not want to for fear of their child(ren)’s image being used without their permission.  That makes sense.  But if you’re not posting for fear that people may unfollow you (which that shouldn’t matter at all, life is not about followers) or that someone may be annoyed that you posted eight pictures of your kid, that’s crazy.  Post one, post them all!  Babies and kids are adorable and anyone that’s going to unfollow you because of that probably hates puppies too.

    2. Your Food

Did you just have the best meal of your life?  Can’t resist taking a picture of that gorgeous array of desserts?  Post that ‘ish!  I love food, and clearly you do too.  If someone gets annoyed that you post a picture of your breakfast or your delicious looking ice cream cone against a brick wall backdrop, that’s their problem.  What about all of the famous painters that painted still life?  Paintings of fruit in a bowl?  I’m sure someone thought that was dumb back in the day too.  And no, I’m not comparing Insta-food to a Matisse, I’m just saying food can be pretty and should be photographed whenever you want.  This goes for coffee too because coffee if delightful and beautiful!

    3. Selfies

Do you love your selfie?  Are you super excited about your outfit or the fabulous hair day you’re having?  I want to see it!  I don’t care how many times it took you to take the perfect picture, although I sincerely hope it didn’t take too long.  If you’re happy and proud of who you are and how you look, that’s beautiful!  I don’t post too many myself because half the time I’m still in sweatpants and no makeup at 2 PM and don’t nobody want to see that.  I like, as I’m sure you do too, to put my best foot forward.  If someone thinks that you’re posting them to be vain or you want to appear perfect, than tell me who doesn’t?  We’re all a little vain I think, we like to look good.  Nothing wrong with that!

    4. Pictures of Your Feet

I know these annoy a number of people but I’m not really sure why.  Have nice shoes on?  Post those bad boys.  Feel like being artistic?  Get your Annie Leibovitz on!  Sometimes I’m standing on a really cool floor and I think it’s pretty.  I like pretty things, don’t you?

Basically, post whatever you want!  Well anything as long as it’s not, you know, inappropriate.  Don’t get yourself reported!  But just remember, it’s your account, your life, your memories.  If you want to remember something by documenting it on Instagram, go right ahead!  Don’t let a silly article, the threat of losing followers, or nay sayers dictate what you can and can’t post.

This also goes for bloggers that have one account for personal pics and their blog.  I’ve heard bloggers get worried about posting too much about their blog and people getting irritated by it.  Really?  That’s ridiculous.  If someone is following you for your personal pictures, to keep up with your life, then they should have no problem with your posts about your blog.  That’s part of your life!  So post away my fellow Insta-holics!  And while we’re at it, you wanna use fifty hashtags on one picture?  Do it!  Hashtag your little heart out!

    Happy Gramming!
    XO, Kelly

    My Favorite Photo Editing Apps

Now ll of these apps can be used for filters and most for manual attribute editing but I only use one of two for that purpose.  Let’s face it, you don’t need 6 apps, taking up room in your storage, just for filtering photos.  It’s the other features they offer that are just plain awesome!  Want to download these apps too?  Just click on the app title to head to the app store.  (Most, possibly all, are available for android as well, I just linked the the Apple app store.)

Pic Tap Go is my go-to app for cropping/straightening and quick filtering.  You can adjust the filters easily and have your photo brightened or whatever you like in about 5 seconds.

VSCO Cam is my favorite for manual editing.  When I have more time to sit and play with the attributes, this is the app I go to.  The main ones I edit are exposure, contrast, and temperature but there’s also skin tone and highlights/shadows which are great for manual editing as well.  You can also add a filter on top of all of these edits if you like.

When I found out about this editing feature I got really excited!  We all have those photos that are a little dark in one area and not so much in another.  Then you go to brighten the photo and the dark spot looks great but the light part is completely washed out.  Snapseed is my fix for that!  You can use the “Selective” tool to brighten only certain areas of your photo.  You can also add multiple points.
Here’s how to use the selective tool:
    1. Select your area to brighten.
    2. Now swipe your finger across the picture, left to right, to brighten the area.
    3. Tap the plus sign to add as many points as you need.

This is the free version of the traditional software for your phone.  I was honestly shocked that it was free, photoshop ain’t cheap!  I use this for eliminating unwanted spots or parts of an image.  In the case of the example above, there’s was a delightful piece of trash ruining our adorable umbrella moment.  All you have to do is select the tool that looks like a bandaid and tap the area you want removed until it looks the way you want.
    Voila! Trash be gone!

By now, I’ve noticed that most Instagramers have jumped on the Beautiful Mess bandwagon.  But this does not mean I love the app any less!  Cute borders, phrases, and doodles with customizable colors and unique fonts.  This is also the app I use when I share my biweekly bumpdates on Insta.  They’re in-app purchases are super inexpensive and the pregnancy pack is only $0.99!

And last, but certainly not least, is Studio app.  So many great design packs with new ones coming out all the time.  All of the packs are free to download in the app, which is also free.  One of my favorite features is the layers options.  You can rearrange the layers you’ve created or go back and edit a certain layer if it doesn’t look right, just as you would in any photo editing software.
What are some of your favorite photo editing apps that you’ve found?
    XO, Kelly

    My Newest Obsession

I’m probably so late to the game but ever since I opened my little bow shop on Instagram, I have been addicted to Instagram shopping.  I had seen some bloggers sell there old clothes on Instagram before but I had no idea it was such a huge thing.
Have you tried it?  It’s all done through Paypal for the most part.  Some people will do trades and some will do meet ups.
Most of the time shipping is included as well as any additional Paypal fees.  You can find just about anything, it’s like a social media garage sale.  Here are some of my favorites!
Tons of clothes for your little, vintage, New with tag still on, and gently used.
Some shops even order some of the hottest new items that you can’t find anywhere and sell them!
Women’s clothes from Anthropologie, Modcloth, Urban Outfitters, etc. at RIDICULOUS prices!!
    Antiques and vintage books.
You name it, you can probably find a shop on Instagram that has it.
I’ve definitely bought a few items!!

10 Ways to Know You’re Following a Blogger on Instagram

Hi my name is Kelly and I’m an “Insta-holic”.
I will be the first one to admit that I am addicted to Instagram.  It even says it in my little profile.
So since I use the app quite a bit, I’ve come to notice a few common threads among bloggers who use Instagram for more than personal use.
These are strictly my observations and am guilty of ALL of them! (and I don’t care)
    1. shoe pictures
    2. mani pictures (hand in the “bear claw” position”)
    3. at least five pictures documenting the same event
    our mountain weekend
    4. pictures of their awesome food
    5. picture of a craft/project in progress
    6. Starbucks and/or coffee pics
    7. #selfie
    8. at least one outfit of the day picture/collage (even if they’re not a fashion blogger)
    9. pics at work (not just bloggin’ goin’ on!)
AND probably the most obvious one…
    10. the phrase “on the blog”, “link in profile”, or “coming soon to the blog” appear somewhere in the caption.
How many are you guilty of?  Are you guilty and not a blogger?  You should start one!
All in all, I feel no shame for my love of Instagram and neither should you!
PS: Don’t forget to sign up for the Summer Lovin’ Snail Mail swap!  Sign ups end May 9th!
