I Sent An Evite

Gavin's 6th Birthday

Well…I did the unthinkable.  I sent an evite for Gavin’s birthday party this past weekend.

Ok, ok.  I kid.  (No really, please don’t think I’m THIS dramatic.)

But, as one of “those” moms, those “Pinterest” moms, I enjoy doing all the bells and whistles for birthdays.  Yes, I ACTUALLY ENJOY doing all the crazy labels and renaming food and decor and anything else I can do for a theme.  Yes, I realize that it’s mainly just for me and my children will have no recollection of said party.  It’s just who I am.  However, as kids get older and my house continues to stay the same size, there’s less and less space to have the parties at the house.  This means jumpy places and specialty parties and those places cost the money that I would normally spend.Continue reading

A {birthday} Letter To My Son

In Mommyhood

Dear Gavin,

Today you are two.  I can’t even believe it.  I feels like yesterday that we were waiting in the hospital for your arrival.  It felt like forever and all we wanted to do was meet you and see your handsome face. Now you’re two and you are so amazing.

You are so full of energy, as many two year olds are, but your energy is special.  I love talking to you and having full on conversation, whether I know all the words you’re saying or not.

Watching you explore is one of my favorite things in life and I pray you never lose that wonder.  You are oh so mischievous and playful.  Your smile is contagious and your giggles fill my heart to bursting.
Deep in my heart I know you are destined for great things little man and I am so blessed to be your mommy.

I love you more than the stars in the sky, Gav.  Happy Birthday!

Love,
Mommy

A Birthday Act of Kindness

Happy birthday to me!  The big 2-7!
Not a huge birthday but I’m ALWAYS excited about my day.
I also want to share something that really made me happy and hopefully made someone else happy too.
Yesterday, I went to Starbucks (big surprise, I know) and was paying at the drive thru window.  I didn’t have much left on my card so I used $5 from some b-day cash I had to pay the balance.
Suddenly it dawned on me, what’s $2 and change to me?  I’m so blessed to have what I need and more.  The person behind me, considering we’re at Starbucks, possibly does too.  But that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a break.
So, I know it wasn’t much, but I left my change to go towards the person-behind-me’s bill.  If nothing else, I know it made the cashier happy since she looked really shocked and asked me if I was sure.  Yes, I was sure….and with that I wished her a good day and drove off.
Maybe that person behind me was having a bad day.  Maybe they were having a great day and I made it better.  Who knows?  That’s the beauty and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to do it.
So I encourage you to think about random acts of kindness.  They don’t have to be big.  A family favorite is ours is paying the toll for the person behind us when we go downtown.  50 cents can be all it takes to make someone smile.
Instill some faith in the world around you that there are good people.
And…

Monster Bash Photo Booth (Part 1: The Props)

LM’s party is just a few days away and I’m finishing up all of the details.  Since this is a 1 year old’s party, we won’t do much of the usual birthday party things.  The kids will play, the adults will mingle, and we’ll watch a 1 year old open presents and eat cake.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to enjoy the bejeezus out of it and I’ll probably cry.  But I thought I’d make it a little bit extra fun for the adults and have a photo booth!
Of course with a photo booth, comes PHOTO PROPS!  So here are my DIY props!
It’s as easy at print, cut, and glue.
We have the classics…
No photo booth is complete without a mustache!
the special monster themed props…
and last but not least a very special prop in honor of the birthday boy!
AND because y’all are so special to me, here are the monster props for you!
